Full Circle In Transformation

Years ago, *Amy was introduced to Love INC Heartland through our thrift store in Delano, Minnesota. She was expecting a baby, and her husband, *Jack, had been laid off from work. Their marriage was stressful, and they had other young children at home. We helped her pick out some baby clothes, and our excitement helped ease her worries about their situation. She was working at a job that didn’t pay much and wanted to make some changes. She decided to take a financial class with us in our Fresh Start Program. She attended class and met with her mentor, Pam. Jack eventually joined her in the class and the mentoring. They connected well with Pam and began to better understand finances.
Pam was a sweet older lady who poured Christ’s love and value into them. After a while, Pam experienced some health challenges and could no longer mentor. I spoke with her a few times, and she asked about the Fresh Start Program and about Amy and Jack. I would share with her about the lives that were being touched and transformed by God within the program.
A few years ago, Pam passed away. She left Love INC Heartland a significant gift of money because she believed in what God was doing in people’s lives, like Amy and Jack’s. Last year, Amy came into our store. I had not heard from her in years. She handed me an envelope of money and told me Love INC Heartland had helped her family during a very challenging time in their life. Our kindness was something she never forgot.
Since then, God has restored their life, and she has moved to a new position at work where she receives better pay. She wanted to give back and help others as we had helped them. I thought about the money Amy’s mentor had given us and looked at the envelope of money from Amy. I remembered the story of the widow’s mite in Luke 21:1–4, describing the true measure of a gift. It’s not about the monetary value but about the amount of sacrifice and devotion behind it. And suddenly, that small amount of money became significant.
Amy and Jack’s lives had been transformed by God within the Fresh Start Program, and now it had come full circle. God orchestrated this story over ten years ago, starting with Pam’s loving heart and willingness to be the hands and feet of Jesus to Amy and Jack. When Amy handed me the envelope of money and shared her gratitude with us, I smiled and thanked her with amazement in my heart. God worked in their lives, bringing them full circle in transformation.

Kayla + Devon’s Transformation Story

One of the biggest common denominators among people who are struggling financially in America is the lack of strong relationships.
At Love In the Name of Christ Heartland, we believe this deeply. We are confident that the reason people stay in our program has much more to do with the relationships they form—especially their relationship with God. He is the only one who can truly transform lives.
Kayla reached out to us a few years ago asking about what resources we could provide. Her story is similar to so many others. People reach out looking for help with financial struggles, and we take the opportunity to begin building a relationship. Kayla was feeling depressed and lonely. She was tired, overworked, and looking for relief.
Kayla and Devon soon started attending the Fresh Start Program, a program at Love INC Heartland that teaches life-skills classes. We believe that people are drawn to it because of the intentional community and the relationships it develops. Kayla and Devon were seeking a faith community and meaningful connections. Our Creator designed us for relationships—we need healthy relationships in our lives.
Kayla shared that one of her early struggles was discovering who she was in Christ. Like so many of us, she had strayed away from God, saying she was “doing everything her way.” She soon learned, “God’s way is always bigger and better than what I could have imagined.”
During her time at our Fresh Start Program, she learned that she is created in God’s perfect image.
She learned she is not a burden to God—that she can live free in His grace and does not need to be weighed down by guilt. She caught a glimpse of God’s unconditional love. One of the most powerful things Kayla shared was this: “I have learned healthy boundaries and relationships along with self-love.” It is very difficult to have healthy relationships with others—or with God—if we do not understand our own self-worth.
Kayla also shared how the Fresh Start Program helped her grow in confidence and become more willing to share her faith in Jesus. She started Fresh Start feeling lonely and hanging on by a prayer. Today, she is more confident and stronger in her faith walk. Her story truly sums up Love INC’s mission: we serve a great God who works His bigger and better plans.
In personal conversations I’ve had with Devon around the Fresh Start dinner table (mealtime is a big part of our intentional community), I’ve heard him share the impact the program has had on him as well. He felt lost before they came to Love INC Heartland, but the relationships and lessons have helped him tremendously. He has shared more than once that they look forward to the Fresh Start Program every Monday night.
When Kayla was asked what she would tell a friend about Love In the Name of Christ, her words were perfect: “Love INC changes lives. It gives resources and helps build relationships. You are never alone, and Love INC proves that.”
Kayla and Devon’s story is similar to many others. Every week, we see growth and signs of transformation—change that only our Father in Heaven can bring. We invite you to be part of these stories of transformation.

Director’s Note: Our Daily Prayer

And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God. Philippians 1:9–11 NIV
These verses come at the end of Paul’s message in Philippians 1, where he expresses his deep affection for the believers in Philippi. What compels me to share them with you today is that this is the same prayer we pray at Love INC Heartland every day. We pray that our love would abound, and that our knowledge and depth of insight would grow—so that we may clearly discern how and where the Lord is leading us.
This pursuit of knowledge and insight is vital to our mission. Whether we are walking alongside a neighbor in need, strengthening a relationship with a local church, or engaging a community partner, we must take the time to understand how to best serve in each unique relationship.
Our mission states that we mobilize local churches to transform lives and communities In the Name of Christ (INC). There can be no transformation, no mobilization, and no healthy relationships if our focus is only inward. Every neighbor, every church, every volunteer, and every organization we work with is different and special in their own way. Engaging these relationships “pure and blameless” requires deep discernment—discernment that only comes through prayer and a humble reliance on Jesus.
One of the characteristics of Jesus that continually draws me closer to Him is the way He met people where they were. He entered into people’s brokenness with compassion and truth. His presence brought comfort because His love was genuine and overflowing. Can you imagine what it will feel like to stand in His presence one day?
We know that, in our brokenness, we will never know all that Jesus knows. We make mistakes and fall short. Yet I am confident that the people of Love INC Heartland seek to be like Christ—to meet people where they are and offer them a glimpse of the hope that only Jesus can truly give.
We know only Jesus transforms.
We know only Jesus mobilizes.
And we invite you to be part of this work that He is doing through Love INC Heartland.
- Consider *Iris. After completing a 12-week Fresh Start Program session, she shared how important the weekly meals were. Those meals—provided by local churches—created space for fellowship, laughter, and encouragement.
- Or *Hank. He had a checkered past and had spent time in prison. When his car broke down, he called Love INC. After speaking with our Family Advocate and praying together, Hank called back a few days later. He’d found a way to fix his car himself. What he really needed was someone to listen—and to remind him that God still cares.
- Then there’s *Betty, who came to us feeling sad and hopeless. Her family was worried about her. After several weeks in Affirming Potential, one of our Fresh Start Program classes, her family noticed a difference. “They said I looked happier,” she shared. “I’m so glad they noticed.”
- And *Susie. At first, she wanted nothing to do with Fresh Start Program. “It’s not for me,” she said. But the Lord had other plans. Just before classes began, she felt led to enroll—and now she shares how much it’s helping her grow.
These are just a few of the stories we see God writing every week.

Fresh Start Program Making A Difference

The intentional community of relationships that form in the Fresh Start Program are vital. This is the loving environment where change most likely occurs, which leads to overall transformation. Fresh Start participants are longing for friendships that are healthy and a change in their life for the good. The meal before class has provided a great opportunity for everyone to make connections and build community. Our small groups have become more talkative, and laughter is heard as well as quiet prayers. It has opened the door for communication that builds trust. Class content can be very deep and emotional as they search for answers in their lives and learn to trust God with their future.
*Emma, a single mother of four, mentioned how much she appreciated the program. She had only been a single mother for a short time and was struggling with this new journey in her life. She came to the class anxious, not knowing anyone. She commented on how the environment of the Fresh Start Program was so loving and welcoming at a time in her life that had been so lonely. It also reminded her of how much she is loved and valued by God. The gas vouchers have been a huge help to her financially. Emma is beginning to make better choices by surrounding herself with positive people. Steps are being taken to move forward with this journey. She is thankful for the Fresh Start Program and the difference it is making in her life.

Together, we’ll turn to Scripture, reflection, and testimony to see how Christ meets us where we are, invites us into deeper relationship, and calls us to be present in the lives of others right where our paths meet. Because these moments are where the Church shines brightest: leaning in, walking alongside, and reflecting the love of Christ in tangible ways.
Love INC affiliates will unite together on September 23-25, 2025, to worship, be inspired by insightful keynote speakers, explore dozens of in-depth workshops, and experience meaningful connections with others in the Movement. Please pray for the Love INC Heartland team as we get ready to attend.

Bethany* had just left an abusive marriage—for the third and final time. She had prayed earnestly for God to save their relationship, holding onto the promises they once made to each other. But after five long years marked by pain and instability, she knew it was time to walk away for good.
A stay-at-home mom of four, and now pregnant with her fifth child, Bethany left the only life she had known. She moved in with her parents and began a new chapter. With no income to support her family, she reached out to the County for help. That’s when she was connected with community resources—including Love INC Heartland.
When Bethany called us, we began a relationship by helping her meet basic needs for her family. We also invited her to join our Fresh Start Program. She started attending classes while our team lovingly cared for her children in childcare. Week after week, Bethany cried as she grieved the loss of the life she once dreamed of. While the program provided essentials like clothing, diapers, and food, she told us the greatest gift was being surrounded by people who reminded her that God has a plan—and she didn’t have to walk through this alone.
Through Fresh Start, Bethany began to realize that she wasn’t the only one. In her marriage, she had lived in secrecy, believing it wasn’t okay to reach out for help. The Fresh Start Program broke through that lie. What she truly needed was community—intentional community—where her family could begin to heal and thrive.
Bethany has started reading her Bible again. She’s praying more. She’s working hard to stop believing the lies about herself. Now, she’s sharing her story, hoping it gives other women the courage to step away from unsafe situations and know they are not alone. She understands now that unless someone has lived it, it’s hard to grasp the weight of such experiences. Today, she’s choosing to focus on what God is doing in her life and how she might help others walking a similar road.
Fresh Start is the opportunity Love INC Heartland provides for people to grow in practical skills while experiencing the power of a loving, Christ-centered community. Many who join the program have lived in what feels like a desert land. As they take classes and we build a relationship with them, their desert land begins to be tilled and a fertile soil is laid for the seed of the Gospel of Jesus to be planted. Our prayer at Love INC Heartland is for this seed of Jesus to germinate and bloom by the power of the Holy Spirit.
